Overview of the UFO Project's Origins

The establishment of the UFO S. government's approach to unidentified flying objects. This initiative was initiated following a memorandum issued in May 1953, which directed the division to take charge of the project.

The primary aim of the Physics and Electronics Division was to maintain an awareness of the activities related to UFOs, especially those conducted by other agencies, including but not limited to the United States Air Force (USAF). As the project evolved, it became clear that the Air Force's interest in UFOs was waning. The Directorate of Intelligence at USAF was primarily focused on maintaining a cursory awareness of the ongoing investigations conducted by the Aerial Phenomena Section at the Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC).
